The first teaser for upcoming weekend series My Golden Life has just been released,
and it definitely has that upbeat, warm fuzzy vibe that I love in family dramas.
And yes, Shin Hye-sun (Forest of Secrets) is coming back to family dramas!
She was so relatable and cute in Five Kids that I want her in a similar role every time
The teaser’s supposed to show how Shin Hye-sun’s character has the chance of overcoming
her impoverished background through a false identity, but due to a series of misfortunes,
she ends up worse off than before and learns to deal with the obstacles that follow.
In the teaser, the drama promises to gives us
a reversal of the commonplace making weekenders
we see so often in dramaland. It starts with this question to the viewers:
“You’ve seen these types of scenes before, right?”
Then, the teaser goes through a checklist of familiar setups
we see all the time in family dramas:
Birth secrets.
A handsome department head.
Cue Park Si-hoo’s (Neighborhood Hero) entrance,
looking like the stereotypical charismatic business leader,
which according to his character synopsis, he is.
An intelligent, hard-working Candy-type heroine.
Shin Hye-sun is shown running late for work, juggling coffee,
and somehow landing in a police station all scratched up.
The love triangle we can’t do without. Enter Lee Tae-hwan (Father, I’ll Take Care of You),
who plays Shin Hye-sun’s childhood best friend, brightly smiling at her with puppy-dog eyes.
A loving, large multigenerational family. That’s Shin Hye-sun, her three siblings,
and their father. Chun Ho-jin (Man to Man) plays her father, while Lee Tae-sung
(Mom, I Summon You, Gold), Seo Eun-soo (Duel), and Shin Hyun-soo
(Ruler—Master of the Mask) play her siblings.
Then the chryon asks: “Is this all?” An emphatic “No! No! No!”
reply flashes, and the teaser explains that there’ll be no frustrating elements in
KBS family drama My Golden Life will air starting September 2,
following the end of Father Is Strange.
