Let's meet Jessey Tsang - Director movie "Scent"

Jessey Tsang Tsui Shan is the director of Park Si Hoo's new movie "Scent". As Park Si Hoo is very confident with this director I was wondering about her background and wanted to get to know her better.

As you will notice Jessey Tsang is a very skilled lady with her own ideas. The video interview which I have uploaded before also showed she has a lot in common with Park Si Hoo. Doesn't that make them the perfect couple to create a good movie? Whatever Park Si Hoo is doing it turns into gold. The movies Jessey Tsang has done so far all received good critics and she has received Awards for her works as well.

Let's go through Jessey Tsang's story.

In 2001 Jessey Tsang graduated from the School of Film and Television of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, majoring in Sound Design.
In 2005 she earned a Master of Fine Arts in Media Design and Technology Program from City University of Hong Kong.

Jessey Tsang's first narrative short "Lonely Planet" won the Silver Award at the Hong Kong Independent Short Film & Video Awards (ifva) in 2004.
Her second narrative short "Oû est la sortie?" was finished in 2007 upon a grant by the Alliance Française in Hong Kong.
Her first feature film "Lovers on the Road" won the Best Drama Film Award, Chinese Film competition section, at the 8th South Taiwan Film Festival in 2008.

Jessey Tsang has also won:

Special Mention Award for her short video "The Life and Times of Ho Chung Village" at the 15th Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards (ifva) in 2010.

Award for Young Artist, category Film at the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in 2011.
Best New Director Award at he 31st Hong Kong Film Awards in 2012 with her second feature film "Big Blue Lake".

Film of Merit Award at the 18th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards in 2012, also for "Big Blue Lake".
Jury Prize at the 2012 Shanghai International Film Festival Awards.

In 2013 a Creative Odyssey "Shit Happening" produced together with Lee Kai Ho was an entry into the 2013 LomoKino Festival.

Jessey Tsang's works have been presented in countries like Italy, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom and been featured at various prestigious film festivals.

"Lovers on the Road" was featured at the 11th International Women's Film Festival in Seoul (IWFFIS 2009) and was the opening film of Asian Film Symposium 2008 in Singapore. It has also been screened at Cornerhouse’s Visible Secrets: Hong Kong’s Women Filmmakers season in 2009.

"Big Blue Lake" premiered in 2011 at the Vancouver International Film Festival and was featured at HK15 Film Festival in 2012, which was held at Cornerhouse in Manchester, and at Osaka Asian Film Festival 2012.

Jessey Tsang's previous works were anchored at a particular city, like Beijing, and a mixture of fantasy and reality. Besides that she has always worked with a mixture of amateurs and professionals. Now she has reached a different level where she needs something that only a professional actor or actress can act, especially in the leading roles. Nevertheless, she still enjoys working with amateurs, but it depends on the script.

Between shorts, experimental work and getting her features off the ground, Jessey Tsang filled in doing art administration and even did some film production around 2006, including work on Ang Lee's Lust, Caution and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

In a nutshell this is the story of Jessey Tsang. I think it's justified to conclude she is a very experienced woman. An independent filmmaker who also does commercial productions. A woman with a point of view of her own and eye for the people she is working with. I'm confident we can look forward to a new movie success in Park Si Hoo's acting career.^^

  3. Hi Wilma! The premises of this movie are so good than is almost a certitude that will be a beautiful movie. As you revealed in your article Ms. Tsang is a very talented, experimented and awarded director and I think she works with a professional team of the same level as she. Park Si Hoo likes the script very much and he can make Kang In Joon character as unique as he is, because this is Park Si Hoo’s hallmark; I hope the music - soundtrack will be outstanding, too; China Film Group is the distributor – the biggest from China, etc., so I’m very confident regarding this movie.
